Volunteering
PTO Board
PTO Governance
Parents are needed who are willing to serve on the PTO Board. Board members help to provide guidance and inspiration for the PTO’s activities, appropriations, financial goal setting, and fundraising. A willingness to lend a hand wherever needed is helpful and fresh perspectives are always welcome.
Office Help and Copy Parents
Communications
Volunteers are needed to help in the office for copying, collating, and stapling materials, assembling envelopes and mailings, both for the school and for the PTO. Any amount of time, no matter how small, is helpful.
Donation Solicitation and Advertising
Fundraising
Volunteers are needed for one of the most challenging jobs in the PTO – reaching out to local businesses and professionals to solicit donations for PTO events like Walk-a-Thon and Fun Fair, and to sell advertising space on the PTO’s web site. Even if you only want to offer a few hours of your time, any assistance is greatly appreciated and much needed, and no experience is required!
Email Communications and Surveys
Communications
Volunteers are needed to send out PTO emails to our email subscribers. Volunteers are also needed to assist in drafting surveys soliciting feedback from parents, and compiling the responses to those surveys.
Hawkwire Newsletter
Communications
This is a school newsletter published on the first Friday of each month containing important dates and items of note for the coming month. A copy is sent to each family. Volunteers are needed to compile all the information into the newsletter and to help copy and distribute the newsletter.
Bulletin Board Display
Communications
The PTO has 6 bulletin boards in the school lobby and hallways for displaying PTO information, school and community notices, photos of school activities, and news for upcoming events. Volunteers are needed to decorate and update the displays periodically throughout the year and to coordinate usage of the bulletin boards by other committees.
Directory
Communications
This publication is available in the fall. It needs to be compiled and proofread during the first two weeks of the school year. The directory is an address, telephone, and email listing of all students and their parents. There is an option to have your telephone number, address, and/or email excluded.Explore More Day
Classroom support
At the end of the school year, the PTO co-sponsors along with HWS a celebration for the children. Explore More Day includes presentations, physical activities and other educational elements. Volunteers are needed to serve on the planning committee and to locate and book presenters. Volunteers are also needed the day before the event to help with set-up, the day of the event to help it to run smoothly, and at the end of the event for breakdown.
Advertising / Newspaper Articles
Communications
This person and/or committee is responsible for publicizing, as needed, PTO sponsored events, fundraisers and meetings via press releases, the local newspapers, BATV, signs, mailings and the HWS newsletter.
PTO Handbook
Communications
This is a publication listing of all the volunteer opportunities for the year. It needs to be reviewed and if necessary revised in early February of each year.
