JBN Field Day Volunteer Reminders
JB parent volunteers for field day,
First and foremost - THANK YOU to the 100 parents who have volunteered to make this years Field Day a day to remember for all the students at JB Nelson. I know for a fact that this day can't run without all the parent support. So again THANK YOU!!
if you signed up to come and help in the morning or afternoon, you will be receiving your game assignment in your child's take home folder today (Friday). An additional reminder, please bring your Driver License with you on Friday the 31st. You will need to check in and leave your license at the front office and then stop back after you are finished to pick it back up. Please understand this is a school procedure that is different than in previous years.
Please be patient with everyone as this day will be very busy.
If you have any questions please contact me at 630-937-8423.
Keep thinking warm thoughts for next week : )

For Parents of RMS current 8th graders: Reminders
1. Permission slips and payment ($25) for the 8th grade dinner-dance is past due. If your 8th grader is planning on attending please be sure they turn these items in to the main office ASAP. The dinner-dance is scheduled for Thursday evening, May 30th from 6:30 - 9:00 at the Gaslite Manor, 2485 Church Road in Aurora. "Nice" and modest clothing is appropriate. Drop-off begins at 6:00. Dates and Limos are strongly discouraged.
2. The last day of school is Monday, June 3rd. Traditionally, the 8th grade spends the day at the Quarry. Please remind your child to bring plenty of sun-screen and to use it liberally. This is a wonderful end-of-the-year activity in celebration of completion of 8th grade. Permission slips for this also need to be turned in to your student's advisory teacher ASAP. Cost is $2. This is a regular day of school attendance. Those without quarry permission will be expected to spend the day in alternative school activities.

Principal Message
As we near the end of this school year and move forward with planning for the coming year, I wanted to share some of the changes that will be happening at H.C. Storm.
H. C. Storm is currently the host of the district’s Bilingual Program for first and second grade students. Beginning in the 2013/14 school year, the district’s Bilingual Program for kindergarteners, which is currently hosted at Hoover-Wood School will be transitioning to H. C. Storm. To accommodate this change, the kindergarteners in the bilingual program will share classroom space with the Batavia Park District’s Kindergarten Enrichment Program. Many factors went into making the decision to move the bilingual kindergarten program to H.C. Storm, including the ability to transport students less, offer program continuity, and cluster professional development. The welcoming environment at H. C. Storm was also a factor, and we look forward to having bilingual kindergartners join our school community next year!
Other upcoming changes at H. C. Storm include a summer construction project that will involve enclosing the B and D pods. These newly configured spaces will be used by staff to provide interventions and enrichment for our students.
In addition to summer construction, several staff will be moving rooms due to an increase section in fourth grade and continuing with an interventionist in third grade. The increase in sections will reduce class sizes; however, this will lead to both music and art specials being offered in the child’s classroom with the specials teacher.
To continue to keep you informed during summer, I will be hosting several “chats” to discuss these changes and provide parents with opportunities to provide feedback. I will also be sending additional communication about both staffing and room assignment changes.
If you have any questions in the interim, please let me know.

LWS Responds to Oklahoma City Tragedy
Dear LWS Families,
As you know devastating storms hit near Oklahoma City earlier this week. In response to this, we at LWS are having a two day dollar drive to benefit the Red Cross.
According to Red Cross spokesperson Dan Halyburton, who is in OKC now, funds are what are most needed.
If you are able, please send in a dollar donation with your child on Thursday or Friday of this week, and we will forward the gift to the Red Cross as soon as possible.
May we keep the people impacted by this in our best wishes and prayers.
The LWS Staff
